Gore will continue to be a safe bet for 20 touches per week and has missed just seven games in his five-year career.

Frank Gore - RB - 49ers Beat writer Matt Maiocco believes the 49ers will struggle to incorporate another back into the offense as long as Frank Gore stays healthy.
This is how we see it as well. In addition to being the team's best offensive player, Gore is also the best pass-blocking back and a top-flight receiver out of the backfield. He's a lock for 300+ touches as long as he stays healthy. June 22

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Anthony Dixon is squarely in his development phase, and Michael Robinson -- owner of a career 3.4 yards-per-carry average -- is hardly an option. Gore no longer has a "handcuff," and is a realistic candidate to finish among the top five in the league in touches. He's a shoe-in top-five fantasy pick.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>So much for keeping Gore fresh. He didn't come off the field even though the Niners were trailing 31-3 at one point and finished with 26 touches. The heavy workload isn't a major concern, however. Gore has never missed more than two games in one season during his six-year career. The 49ers will keep feeding him.

Frank Gore - RB - 49ers 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Johnson half-heartedly suggested that Frank Gore's workload will be lightened going forward.
The beat writers got a kick out of this one, as the Niners have threatened multiple times to reduce Gore's carries. He's touched the ball 142 times on 359 offensive plays while Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon have combined for five carries. "You do need to take some of that wear and tear off of him," Johnson said. "But you know Frank Gore. Frank Gore doesn't like to come out of the game. He's a warrior." Frank Gore will remain a top-five fantasy option. October 21 - 6:13 p.m. ET

The injury isn't expected to threaten Gore's 2011 season, but the 49ers won't know for sure until all of his medical tests come back this week. Gore will turn 28 next May as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract. Depending on Anthony Dixon's performance in a five-game window as Brian Westbrook's backfield partner, the 49ers may elect to address the position in next year's draft. Gore's Dynasty value has taken a significant blow.

"Because of the past history with Brian, some of the injuries, it's smart for us to be careful about how we use him," said Singletary. "He's a talented guy, but we want to be smart about that." The 49ers will use a "good mixture" between Westbrook and Anthony Dixon over the final five weeks. Westbrook will be hard to take off the field when the 49ers are playing from behind, so he's the better bet for fantasy production at Green Bay. He remains the top waiver pickup for Week 13. Dixon's value is higher in TD-heavy leagues.
